The following are some parish groups you may want to consider lending your gifts and talents to help build up our parish community.
A LIFE WORTH LIVING – This is a follow-up program for those who have completed The Alpha Course. It is a 9-week course with practical and encouraging insights for living the Christian life.
THE ALPHA COURSE – A 10-week course with a weekend retreat. It is a course on Christianity and its relevance today. Do you have any questions about your faith? Here is where you can find answers. Please contact the Parish office for information on the next course.
ALTAR SERVERS – This is for boys and girls in grade 3 or older who want to serve at the altar during Sunday Liturgy.
BAPTISMAL PREPARATION – This is a process consisting of several sessions where parents asking for baptism for their children can reflect on and share the meaning of this sacrament. The parish invites couples that would like to help by sharing their experiences of family and baptism with new parents to contact the parish office.
BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY – This group ministers to those who are grieving and helps with the immediate preparation of the Funeral Liturgy. They also provide and organize the reception in the Church Hall after a Funeral service.
BIBLE STUDY/SMALL FAITH-SHARING GROUPS – We have an ongoing bible study that reflects on the Sunday readings which helps to prepare for the Sunday Liturgy. There are also other seasonal studies that are done in small groups with sign-ups done at the time. Contact the parish office for more information or for resources.
THE COMPASSIONATE FRIENDS (TCF) - An international self-help organization offering friendship and understanding to bereaved parents, siblings and grandparents who have experienced the death of a child from before birth through to adulthood, from any cause. TCF has no religious affiliations; there are no dues or membership fees. Meetings are held the 2nd Wednesday of every month at St. Anthony’s School.
CATHOLIC WOMEN’S LEAGUE (CWL) – is a national organization dedicated to the service of promoting and strengthening the union of Christian women and speaking to the issues related to the role of women and families in society.
CHILDREN’S LITURGY – This group ministers to children at the 11:15 a.m. Sunday Mass by providing children the opportunity to have Sunday’s Gospel reading presented to them at their own level. Contact the Parish office.
CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS (RCIA) – This program is directed toward people interested in becoming members of the Catholic Community. It also lends itself to inactive Catholics who wish to re-introduce themselves into the life of the faith community. Please contact the parish office for more information.
CHURCH AND SCHOOL SECURITY – A group of individuals who ensure that both the church and school are secure (premises secure, doors locked, alarms set) at the end of each day.
DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE - A group who works together to organize the Share Lent campaign, Solidarity Sunday and to support the efforts of the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace in working with our brothers and sisters in third world countries.
EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS – Members of the Parish who are mandated to serve at the altar to distribute communion and to carry Communion to the sick.
FINANCE COMMITTEE – A committee of appointed individuals who manage the parish finances (budgeting, preparing financial statements and reports). Computer and accounting skills would be helpful.
GROUNDS COMMITTEE – For anyone interested in maintaining and improving church grounds. Includes looking after the flower beds and gardens, and cutting the grass around the school and the church.
HOSPITALITY MINISTRY – People who make a special effort to welcome newcomers into our Parish Community and serve to greet all those who gather for Sunday worship. This ministry works closely with the Pastor and Parish Council.
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS – An international society of men providing fellowship and service to one another and working generally within the community to increase awareness of every Catholic’s Christian vocation.
LITURGY COMMITTEE – This committee is open to all who have an interest in helping to arrange our parish celebrations in a prayerful way by developing the themes during the Church’s liturgical year. Please contact the parish office for more information.
MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE – provides leadership in assessing special project needs for the maintenance and improvement of the church, hall facility, grounds, rectory and the school. Also organizes the undertaking of these projects.
MARRIAGE PREPARATION – For couples engaged to be married in Christ the King Parish. This is a process with several information sessions plus an Engaged Encounter weekend. We need married couples from the parish to be sponsors for the engaged couples, accompanying them throughout the program and beyond.
MUSIC MINISTRY – Groups are needed in the Parish who willingly share their talents to form choirs and play instruments leading our community in prayerful worship through song. They work closely with the Liturgy Committee. Contact the parish office if you wish to start or join a group.
MINISTRY TO THE SICK – Persons who serve as a liaison between the Parish Community and those who are sick or homebound.
MOTHERS GROUP – This group meets Wednesday mornings, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the church hall, to support each other in discussions, prayer and fellowship. All mothers and fathers are welcome to attend! New and expectant mothers are especially encouraged. Contact the parish office for more information.
PARISH COUNCIL – Body of parish members representing a cross-section of the parish who are elected. Along with the parish, they are responsible for the spiritual and material administration of the Parish. Contact the parish office for more information.
PROCLAIMERS OF THE WORD (READERS) – Members of the Parish who are mandated to proclaim the Scriptures at the Sunday Celebrations. This is an important ministry of making Christ known through his Word.
RAINBOWS FOR ALL GOD’S CHILDREN – Support for children and teens experiencing loss from death, divorce and separation.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION/SUNDAY SCHOOL – This is run by a group of parishioners, both youth and adult, who generously give of their time in helping to teach religious education to children of the parish who attend public school. Please contact the parish office for more information.
SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION – The preparation for the Sacraments of Confirmation, First Eucharist and First Reconciliation is coordinated through the parish office and school. Children and parents will participate in evening celebrations throughout the year. To register, contact the parish office.
SCHOOL COUNCIL – is made up of elected parish members that serve a two-year term. They are responsible for the administration of the parish school in collaboration with the Pastor, Principal and staff, and the Catholic Independent Schools of the Diocese of Prince George. ST. ANTHONY’S PARENT GROUP – A group of parents who unite the home, school and parish in nurturing a vibrant faith community. They encourage parent awareness and involvement in school activities to the fullest possible extent. Contact St. Anthony’s School for information.
YOUNG ADULTS – This group provides opportunities for young adults to meet together to grow in friendship and share their faith through discussions and social events. Contact the parish office for more information.
YOUTH MINISTRY – For our teens in grades 8-12 to help them to grow in their faith, to build community among Catholic teens and invite them into full participation in the life of the Parish. Many adult volunteers are needed to keep this ministry alive and vibrant. Contact the parish office for more information.
