The meeting began with a tour of the “new” rectory at 45 Teal Street. This was an opportunity for members of the parish to see the rectory for the first time. Feedback on the house was favourable.

3. Correspondence

  • A thank you note was received y the Slanina Family for parish council’s card and note on the death of Arleigh Slanina.

4. Evaluation/Discussion

  • No groups/ministries to be evaluated.

5. Project(s)/Standing Committees

Maintenance Committee

  • Sidewalk Extension from Wakita Avenue to Church property
    • Majority of the work has been completed. John Medeiros not completely satisfied with the work to date. The sidewalk is not completely level.
  • Drains
    • Waiting for work to be done around the outside perimeter of the church.

Finance

  • No financial summary this month.

Rectory/Office

  • Council members are happy with the new rectory after having an opportunity to walk through it.
  • Parish Council reviewed the list of items needing attention prior to occupancy at the new rectory.
  • A cleaning party needs to be organized. Amabile to contact a few people to help with this task.
  • We need to check to see if we have insurance on the new house. Father Kenneth to contact John Phillips in Prince George to determine the status.
  • TLC Lawn Care, owned by Derick Stinson has contacted the parish expressing interest in maintaining the lawn at the new rectory. Parish councils agrees and consents with this. Susana to contact Derick on behalf of parish council.
  • Feedback from the Announcement: Rob Belsham and Luiza Couto both shared that there was good positive feeling from parishioners about the new rectory. Those who were in favour were familiar with the past history and felt it was necessary to move on and provide good accommodations for our priest and a healthy, bright functional office for parishioners, parish staff and priest.
  • Roof: The roof of the old rectory has been replaced. Total cost of the project is $4,600. The gutters need attention. These get plugged with leaves and debris and cause water to flow out. The parish needs to be sensitive to the various contractors in the community, especially those that are affiliated to parishioners. Although time consuming, it would be in the best interests of the parish to always seek bid/quotes from all who are qualified or who have had a relationship with the parish.
  • WCB: Responsibility for WCB coverage remains the responsibility of the contractor.

Hall Committee

  • The coolers have been repaired. Problem was a plugged drain on the coolers.

Youth Room Update

  • No change in the status of the youth room.

6. Business Arising from Minutes/from the Floor

Youth Ministry Coordinator

  • Council members would like to see the position continue to be advertised in the parish bulletin. Council members recognize that a personal invitation is the best way to attract people.

Catholic Etiquette

  • Council members reviewed the draft Church etiquette reminders list and made suggestions and recommendations about how to make it better. A revised draft will be presented at the next parish council meeting. The thought would be to include it in the fall bulletin.

Parish Council Chairperson and Secretary

  • Susana will be resigning from the dual roles of parish council chairperson and secretary effective the September, 2010 meeting. It is time for others to take on the responsibility and tasks. John House has agreed to chair the parish pastoral council and Laurel Alves has agreed to be the secretary. John has asked for guidance in the new role as chairperson.

Corpus Christi Celebrations

  • Parish and School will be working together. The celebration will be used as a springboard to promote the school and the teachers. Laurel suggested that the school submit a float in the July 1st parade. This would be a good way to promote the school in the community.

Father Kenneth Away

  • Father Kenneth will be away from the parish from July 7th to 14th as he attends the closing celebrations in Rome for the Year For Priests.
