Parish Pastoral Councils

  • Parish Council reviewed: Directives for Parish Pastoral Councils, Vision for the Diocese of Prince George and the Organization Structure of the Parish.
  • There was animated discussion and sharing as council members reviewed and shared on the various items.

Year for Priests

  • Parish council members are still undecided as to what the parish should do. We will continue to think of different possibilities.

Parish Bereavement Ministry, Arleigh Slanina

  • Arleigh Slanina, founding member of the parish bereavement ministry was diagnosed with terminal cancer. The bereavement ministry is only the beginning of a long list of ministries and activities that Arleigh has poured her heart and soul into.
  • How do we honour this woman, who has given so much to the parish and diocese? Various ideas were talked about but nothing was decided upon. A suggestion was made to talk to Karen Gurtins to see if she could make some suggestions.

Farewell Gift to Families Leaving

  • A number of families are leaving the parish at the close of the school year because of the Eurocan situation. Is there something that we as a parish can give them as an expression of our love and care as they move on? Susana showed parish council members a simple card with the picture of the church and a religious keychain with the option of engraving the name of the parish on the back. Parish council members were in favour of the idea and gave approval for the purchase, about $100-150.
  • Father Kenneth mentioned the gathering the Filipino community had hosted for Filipino employees of Eurocan. He recalled it being a nice gathering with food, music and a prayer and blessing for employees and families. Father asked if something like this could be done at the parish level. We all agreed that it would be a large undertaking to organize ie. food prep, set up, clean up, initiations, etc. A suggestion was made that we tie this into our Corpus Christi Celebrations. We could sent out invites and offer a blessing for those retiring, leaving or who continue to look for work. Council members agreed to support this initiative.
