Mass times:

Saturdays - 7:30pm

Sundays - 9am & 11:15am

SCRIPTURE REFLECTION
Today's readings center on faith. Acts tells us the early community of believers took the gospel to heart and formed their lives on its message. Peter writes to encourage the newly baptized Christians who faced hostility. And the Gospel tells the story of Thomas. He insists upon physical evidence before he believes. He doubts, but Jesus knows this and speaks to him through his doubts. He recognizes Thomas as one who can believe and he calls him to faith. The gospel writer encourages his audience to believe in Jesus even though they have't actually seen him.

ORGAN DONOR AWARENESS WEEK: Was April 18-24 this year. The Catholic Church supports and promotes organ and tissue donation. The legislation and regulations which are in place in British Columbia and Yukon are fully in accord with Catholic teachings and principles. As people of faith we are challenged to consider the Church’s words and respond to God’s call to love and self-giving. We need only to look to Lizuarte Barcelos and others in our community who have been given the gift of life.

BEATIFICATION OF POPE JOHN PAUL II ~ May 1, 2011: Pope John Paul II left a major mark on the Church and on the world. His vision and energy were a continuation of the Second Vatican Council. His Encyclicals and other writings are a lasting source of inspiration and teaching. The impact of his magnetic personality remains at the centre of many happy memories. He continues to attract world-wide attention, not only in the number of pilgrims who visit his tomb each year, but in international celebrations such as World Youth Day which he founded 26 years ago. With his beatification, Pope John Paul II remains a sign and instrument of God’s Providence, and a contemporary example of how Our Lord raises up shepherds and leaders for his flock.

O Holy Trinity, we thank you for having given to the Church Pope John Paul II, and for having made him shine with your fatherly tenderness, the glory of the Cross of Christ and the splendor of the Spirit of love He, trusting completely in your infinite mercy and in the maternal intercession of Mary, has shown himself in the likeness of Jesus the Good Shepherd and has pointed out to us holiness as the path to reach eternal communion with You. Grant us, through his intercession, according to your will, the grace that we implore, in the hope that he will soon be numbered among your saints. Amen.

OUR LADY OF FATIMA CHOIR: Practices for anyone interested in participating in the Portuguese choir for Our Lady of Fatima celebration will be held on Friday, May 6 at 7 pm in the church. The practices are open to everyone.

WALK OF SORROWS: Thank you to Ron and Jenny Lechner and the staff of the Kitimat Pizza Factory for hosting the soup and buns following this year’s Witness Walk on Good Friday. Thank you for your generosity and dedication.

A POWERFUL PRAYER: In a vision to St. Maria Faustina Kowalska in 1932, the Lord revealed a powerful prayer that He wanted everyone to say—the Chaplet of The Divine Mercy—and He promised extraordinary graces to those who would recite it: Whoever will recite it will receive great mercy a the hour of death….Priests will recommend it to sinners as their last hope of salvation. Even if there were a sinner most hardened, if he were to recite this chaplet only once, he would receive grace from My infinite mercy…..I desire to grant unimaginable graces to those souls who trust in My mercy…….(DIARY, 687). Prayed on ordinary rosary beads, the Chaplet is an intercessory prayer that extends the offering of the Eucharist. It may be said at any time, but our Lord specifically requested that it be used as a novena on the nine days before the Feast of Mercy (the first Sunday after Easter).
It is also especially appropriate to say the Chaplet during the three o’clock hour (recalling the time of Christ’s death on the cross). In His revelations to Saint Faustina, Our Lord asked for special prayer and veneration for His Passion during this time. Parishioners are invited to gather together on Sunday, May 1 at 7 pm for the chaplet of Divine Mercy and then Adoration.
