SCRIPTURE REFLECTION

Today's Gospel is about the water that gives life, about getting beyond physical thirst to a deeper thirst for for trust and love. Jesus draws the Samaritan woman through a solidly physical understanding of thirst and water to an honest look at her life and her need for conversion, and finally a regonition of who he is as the Messiah, the one who will quench all the thirsts of the townspeople and invites them to meet Jesus. Conversion is a slow process, but the patient persistence of Jesus will quench our thirst - in spite of ourselves. And it always moves us beyond our own nourishment to an active involvement in the lives of others.

2011 CERTIFICATE IN YOUTH MINISTRY STUDIES: The certificate is an excellent opportunity to learn new skills in sharing our Catholic faith with youth, to hear about current issues in youth culture, share ideas with others, work as part of a learning team, experience community among other youth leaders and pray in and through Christ. Quite a range of people take the certificate: parish youth leaders, diocesan/eparchy youth leaders, teachers, pastors and anyone else who work with youth in the name of Christ. The seminars take place this year at Queen’s House in Saskatoon from July 15, 21. For additional information, see the youth ministry bulletin board.

It is a most joyful event—plan to take part. A dinner prior to the celebration will take place at 5 pm at the cathedral. Due to space limitations, only 4 parish representatives can attend.
