SCRIPTURE REFLECTION

Epiphany means "manifestation," a revelation of Jesus as truly God. Matthew and Luke show this child to be divine through stories of "signs and wonders" when Jesus was an infant. Matthew's audience, largely Jewish Christians, was struggling to accept the presence of Gentile Christians in their community. Matthew shows in this Gospel passage that the salvation of Gentiles as well as Jews was indeed God's plan.

WORKSHOP OF THE REVISED ROMAN MISSAL: There has been much news in the Catholic world about the revisions to take place in celebration of the Mass. New translations are being prepared, which will mean a change in some of our prayers and responses. There are also some adjustments being made in how we celebrate the liturgy. While these changes may be implemented in Canada as early as Advent 2011, it may take a little more time to prepare the needed liturgical books and catechetical resources. In our diocese work has already started to prepare for these changes. Priests were given a workshop in May and the Pastoral Life Directors and Pastoral Associates in June to review the principles used in making the changes. These workshops are open to everyone, but especially those involved in liturgy or catechists who prepare others for various liturgies (e.g. RCIA, children). The purpose of this workshop is to explore some basic foundations in liturgy, review the principles for the changes, and study the revised prayers (Greetings, Gloria, Creed, Eucharistic Prayers…). These workshops will be facilitated by Bishop Gerald Wiesner, OMI, and Susan Campbell. From this workshop, parishes will be able to provide its own workshops on the local level for different groups. The workshop for our region will be held in Terrace on February 11 from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm and then on February 12 from 9 am to 4 pm. Additional information will be provided in future bulletins. Please mark these dates on your calendar and make every effort to attend.

ST. ANTHONY’S CATHOLIC SCHOOL: The mission of St. Anthony’s School community is to provide a quality education for the whole child while fostering acceptance, respect and responsibility towards self and others. This is done in the spirit of faith, hope and charity to further God’s kingdom of justice and peace in the world. St. Anthony’s school welcomes children from Kindergarten to Grade 7. There are spaces available in each of the grade levels and registration is ongoing. To enroll, please contact St. Anthony’s school at 632-6313 or drop by the office during regular school hours. The staff would be pleased to assist you.

MASS STIPENDS: Canada Revenue Agency now requires the Diocese (RCEC) to issue T4-A’s declaring income for Mass Stipends for priests. A number of new procedures will be implemented in the parish office to help us keep track of this for the diocese. We would appreciate parishioners assistance with the following: When offering a Mass Stipend to a priest for a mass offered, PLEASE RECORD YOUR NAME AND PHONE NUMBER AND THE NAME OF THE PERSON FOR WHOM THE MASS IS OFFERED. You may either give your mass stipend to the priest, place it in the collection basket and/or leave it at the parish office. The office will also be preparing special envelopes for people to use if they wish and these will be available in the church. This new procedure will go into effect beginning January 1, 2011.
