WE PRAY FOR: Parishioners are invited to keep in their prayers parishioners Sophie Tyburcy whose funeral was held on Friday, February 10th and Neil Meeuwissen whose funeral was held in St. Joseph’s Parish in Smithers. “Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.”

TAX RECEIPTS: These should be available in the foyer for pick up before months end. Any receipts not picked up before the end of the month will be mailed. Help us save postage costs by picking up your tax receipt.

CONFIRMATION AND HOLY COMMUNION: A series of 4 sessions to deepen our understanding of the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Communion will be held as follows: Thursday, February 16, Wednesday, March 7 and Thursday, March 15. All sessions take place in the church hall from 7:30 to 9:00 pm. These sessions are of particular interest to parents who are preparing their children for the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Communion.

PALMS: Parishioners are invited to bring to the church their palms from Passion Sunday 2011 so that these can be burned and used in our Ash Wednesday liturgies. Ash Wednesday is on February 22 this year. A container will be made available in the church foyer to collect the palms.

LENTEN RESOURCES HAVE ARRIVED! Lent begins on February 22 with the celebration of Ash Wednesday. The parish has ordered a number of different faith sharing booklets for people to use. Booklets are $2 each and available on the table in the church.

THE SEASON OF LENT: This begins on Wednesday, February 22 with the celebration of Ash Wednesday. The word Lent comes from a teutonic word that means “springtime”. The word was also used early on to translate the word quardrigesima, or forty days. During, Lent we try to become better disciplies, to follow the pattern of Jesus, our teacher. During Lent prayers should be intensified as well as works of piety, charity and self-denial. The parish will be providing several opportunities during the season of Lent to grow in the Lord’s grace. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fasting and abstinence from meat. Mass times on Ash Wednesday are as follows; 11 am (with St. Anthony’s School), 4 pm (Multi-Level Care) and 7 pm.

ANOINTING OF THE SICK: To the many hands who helped prepare the church hall for our celebrations, the LUSO ladies for the wonderful soup, our parish volunteers who prepared the sandwiches, the Grade 6 and 7 students of St. Anthony’s for assisting with music and serving, Fr. Anselmo for joining us, residents are care aids of Mountainview Lodge and Delta King Place who joined us, Mrs. Miranda for taking care of the details and to everyone who came out to celebrate the communal anointing of the sick. It was a wonderful celebration.

OUR LADY OF LOURDES: The statue of Our Lady of Lourdes that was blessed at the World Day of Prayer for the Sick and is now in the church foyer (as we determine a proper place to keep her) was a gift made by a parishioner to Christ the King Parish. As a parish, we say, “Thank you.” Our Lady of Lourdes…pray for us.

WE SAY GOODBYE: At the Last Bash Before the Ash on Friday, February 17th, we will take the opportunity to thank and say goodbye to Marie-Claire Smith who will be leaving for Campbell River at the end of the month and to Father Anselmo Landoy who returns home to the Philippines on February 24th after covering for Father Kenneth. Please join us as we say goodbye to two very good people.

REVISED ROMAN MISSAL ~ The Preparation of the Gifts: One of the most noticeable changes is the priest’s injunction during the preparation of the gifts to the people: “Pray brothers and sisters that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God, the almighty Father”. The sacrifice that we all offer at Mass is not only the bread and wine that will become the Body and Blood of Christ but also the sacrifice of our daily work, our prayers, and our family life – in short, the sacrifice of every area of our lives - that we all offer to God at every Mass. There is a Catholic traditional prayer that many people pray at the beginning of the day called “The Morning Offering” where we offer to God the whole day and everything in it – our works, our joys, our sufferings and our hopes – which echoes this total sacrifice of our lives to God. That is why everyone who attends Mass participates in the sacrifice of the Mass in offering themselves on the altar with the bread and wine to God and so we reflect that reality in the priest’s words “my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable”.

The Morning Offering: O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer you my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day for all the intentions of your Sacred Heart, in union with the holy sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world, in thanksgiving for your favors, in reparation for my sins, for the intentions of all my relatives and friends, and in particular for the intentions of the Holy Father. Amen.
